Leading with Emotional Intelligence
The Space Walk: An Experiential Leadership Development Workshop

Lisette and Raja will examine how self-awareness is a pivotal emotional intelligence skill and the bedrock of exceptional leadership. The development of self-awareness is attainable through consistent and intentional daily practice, which begins with the ability to articulate our emotions accurately. However, the relentless demands of the professional sphere and our busy lives often afford us little time for the necessary introspection before making decisions or taking action. On the other hand, in moments of reflection, we may lack the requisite cognitive tools to thoroughly examine our thoughts, emotions, and needs, which hinders our capacity to act and communicate with emotional intelligence.

This workshop will accelerate the development of self-awareness and the emotional literacy of participants through involvement in the Space Walk experiential learning exercise. By the conclusion of this experience, individuals will be equipped to:

  • Utilize OFTA as a powerful cognitive tool to reflect on professional and personal experiences more effectively.
  • Discuss the difference between emotions and feelings.
  • Express feelings more accurately by recognizing both primary and secondary emotions.
  • Communicate thoughts, emotions, and needs to others effectively to foster trust, respect, and empathy.

Creating an Inclusive & Diverse Workforce

This workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to engage in facilitated table-based discussions on issues related to the employment of persons with a disability, and how the various components of that journey can be made more inclusive. Discussions will enable the identification of practices that can address the barriers inherent in many current Human Resource policies and practices, including:

  • Building an inclusive workplace culture
  • Recruitment, interviewing and onboarding
  • Provision of accommodations and on-the-job support
  • Impacts and benefits of an inclusive and diverse workforce
